I recently completed 18 pieces for a personal show called "Tall Trees and Chicory." It was organized by my friend Kim and I as a way to explore our styles and push ourselves to create a new body of personal work. The only restraint was that it needed to be nature themed. With that I did 3 series of work that I'll probably be adding to throughout the year.
I created 3 conceptual portraits that are very personally to me. They deal mostly with self-confidence. Then there is the flower faces series to explore ethnicity and our different facial proportions. And last, a series of studies of Louisiana wildlife and nature. These were most beneficial in learning my style and my way of mark marking. My style is effortless when creating portrait work, but other subject matter is more difficult for me to break down. I learned more than I thought I would with those studies. I have a habit of "render" studies rather than applying my style. *Note: I'll be post process work for a lot of these pieces on my Patreon as part of October's reward for my patrons. In fact, I've already posted some progress work since starting this series back in April. To learn more go to my Patreon.
